Toddler Pillows
The Basic Facts of Toddler Pillows
By Savel Benaya
Generally, everyone use a pillow when they go to sleep. People might even think this is the only way they can sleep comfortably. In fact, it can be quite painful and leave us waking up with a stiff neck or maybe even stopping us getting to sleep in the first place when we are sleeping without a pillow. Therefore it is no surprise that many parents wonder whether their toddler would also be more comfortable if given toddler pillows.
Don’t be fooled, just because you find it more comfortable to sleep with a pillow it is not necessary for a baby or toddler to sleep with toddler pillows to be comfortable. You will find that a toddler can very easily sleep comfortably without a pillow for a few years. A toddler pillow ageĀ is definitely not recommended if your child is younger than two years old. Normally a child under this age will not need a support for his or her head and more importantly there is always some risk of them suffocating on the pillow.
Toddlers should sleep without the possibility of snuggling their little heads under a toddler pillow age and potentially smothering. Toddler pillows are about half the size of a standard adult pillow and they have their own special pillow cases that are made to fit. A child of two to five or six years old simply is not able to sleep comfortably on a large standard adult pillow. Their necks and shoulders can not be comfortable because the pillow is too large and too thick. The toddler’s special pillows allow your child’s head, neck and shoulders to be supported just like yours but in a size proportional to the child’s smaller body.
Make sure it is an actual ‘baby sleep pillow’ rather than just one you already have in your house when you want to give toddler pillow age for your toddler. The toddler pillows should be relatively firm so that the toddler cannot sink into it whilst sleeping and be smothered or suffocated. It should also be smaller than a regular adult pillow, possibly around the size of a travel pillow and be easily washable for when your child has those little accidents. You will also be able to buy a baby pillow that is non-allergenic if your child suffers from any allergies
If your toddler doesn’t have allergies, you are able to select down fill for their special little toddler pillows, or you can choose polyester fiber fill. Each will last pretty well, but you will pay a bit more for 100% down fill.
